Hasselblad H5D Demo Day

To see the latest H5D medium format digital system, drop by Beau Photo on February 5th between 4pm and 7pm. An H5D-50 body and various lenses will be available for you to try. Bring a blank CompactFlash card if you want to shoot some tests and take them back with you. In addition, if you bring a USB flash drive, we can give you a copy of Hasselblad's Phocus raw workflow software to use with the images you shot. However if you already have the latest versions of Adobe Camera Raw or Lightroom, then they do an excellent job of converting Hasselblad raw files.

Please RSVP to register for the event by calling or emailing Mike Mander at 604-734-7771 or Hope to see you there!

Arrived! Fujifilm XF 14mm f/2.8 R

Finally! We just got our first small shipment of the highly anticipated Fujifilm 14mm primes. Well, highly anticipated by some anyway and by me for sure! On the X-E1 and X-Pro1, this lens produces a field-of-view equivalent to a 21mm lens on a full-frame 35mm camera. These three lenses are spoken for, but I do hope we'll get some more very soon.

Preliminary tests show this lens to be extremely well corrected optically for distortion (straight lines stay straight) and they have seem to have virtually no chromatic aberrations either, meaning that software corrections will be minimal or not even required in most cases. This bodes well for corner sharpness and indeed my first few photos here in the store make me think that this will be one of the best ultra-wide primes out there, from a corner-to-corner sharpness standpoint. The lens sells for $899, so if you want to get in on one of the next shipments, call us up and pre-order your's soon...

NEW In Rentals!

We have some new and exciting gear in the Rental department this month!  From Canon, we have the EOS 6D DSLR, the 24-70mm f2.8L lens, the 24-70mm f4L IS lens and the 35mm f2 IS lens.  On the Nikon side, we have the 70-200mm f4 VR lens, a lens that many Nikon shooters have been waiting for!

Canon EOS 6D:
The EOS 6D DSLR camera is the ideal tool for unlocking your creative vision. It features a 20.2 Megapixel Full-Frame CMOS sensor, a wide ISO range of 100-25600, expandable to L: 50, H1: 51200, and H2: 102400, for incredible image quality even in low light, and a DIGIC 5+ Image Processor delivers enhanced noise reduction and exceptional processing speed. A new 11-point AF including a high-precision center cross-type AF point with EV -3 sensitivity allows focusing in extreme low-light conditions, and with continuous shooting up to 4.5 fps, you are ready to capture fast action. Full HD video with manual exposure control, multiple frame rates, and the benefits of a Full-Frame sensor provides stunning video recording.  With the built in WiFi you can use your smartphone for remote camera control and operation (with the EOS Remote app), or even print your images on a Wi-Fi compatible printer. Perfect for travel and nature photography, the built-in GPS allows location data to be recorded while shooting.

Canon EF24-70/2.8L II USM:
This new 24-70mm f2.8L II lens is a much needed update to the old 25-70mm f2.8 lens.  This lens is noticeably sharper and has much higher contrast than its predecessor, even when shooting wide open.

Canon 24-70mm f4L IS USM:
An all new lens design that is a potential alternative to the bigger and more expensive 24-70mm f2.8L II that adds Image Stabilization and a sweet macro mode.

Canon 35mm f2 IS USM:
Canon replacement for the venerable 35mm f2 lens, this lens is physically larger than the outgoing one, but add much better construction, a quiet USM AF motor and Image Stabilization.

Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/4G ED VR:
This new lens from Nikon features the third generation of VR, claiming to have up to 5 stops of image stabilization in a lightweight & compact design.
