Phase One P65+ Demo/Rental SALE

In order to make room for newer digital back systems in our rental dept., we have decided to put our current models up for sale. Up for grabs here is a Phase One P65+ digital back. This is a 60 megapixel full-frame 645 digital back with extremely high image quality. It is mated to an autofocus Hasselblad H2 body and comes with an HC 80mm f/2.8 lens. All Hasselblad HC lenses have leaf shutters so you can sync your flashes at up to 1/800 of a second.

The package includes batteries, charger, Firewire tether cable and most standard accessories. In addition, a Hasselblad 120 film magazine for the H2 body is also included. The kit is cosmetically in good condition with only a few minor scuffs and scratches on the body.

The Hasselblad H-body, viewfinder, film magazine and 80mm lens have a 30 day warranty, just like any other used item we sell, but the P65+ digital back will come with an extra few months, a total warranty of 90 days.

The price for this package is $8,495.  SOLD!

As an added bonus, we will throw in a $300 rental coupon that you can use to rent or test out additional Hasselblad lenses, rent lighting or whatever else might interest you...

Reviewed! Fujifilm X-Pro2...

After using my new X-Pro2 for well over a month, I've finally managed to get my full review published on my own blog. I've included a fair bit of material, including details on the performance of most lenses after testing many different Fujifilm lenses, nine of which I actually own myself now. There are details of the operation of the Hybrid-Viewfinder, card write speed and buffer size tests, comments on ergonomics, user interface, focus performance and, of course, image quality. Link to the review is above.

To summarize, I really enjoy shooting with the X-Pro2. Not only does it have great image quality, but it also has quick and reliable AF as well as very snappy performance overall, with a very fast and responsive shutter mechanism (that also sounds great) and minimal EVF blackout between frames. It has a generous raw buffer, exhibits fast card write times (with UHS-II U3 cards) and is generally responsive enough that you never feel like you are waiting for the camera to catch up. With its enhanced Hybrid-Viewfinder, revised control ergonomics, a custom My Menu, a configurable Q menu as well as numerous customizable buttons, it is also one of the most fluid cameras I've used, one I've been able to configure so that it's perfectly suited to my style of photography.

As with any camera, it is not perfect and there are some quirks and annoyances detailed in the review as well, relatively poor battery life being one of them. That said, none of the issues are even remotely deal breakers for me, and I can still highly recommend the X-Pro2 for most types of photography.

If you just want to see a gallery of images taken with the X-Pro2, and deal with reading the text later, click on the image below, taken in the Nitobe Gardens at UBC. Speaking of images, there are also numerous full-resolution files you can download that are linked within the review. Enjoy!

Phase One IQ140 Demo/Rental SALE

Up for sales is our ex-rental Phase One IQ140 with a 645 DF body and 80mm leaf-shutter lens offering flash-sync speeds up to a very fast 1/1600 second. The body has been upgraded with a 10K Li-Ion battery pack and charger, giving you many thousands of frames between charges for the DF body. The IQ140 is a 40 megapixel digital back (1.3x crop-factor from 645) with an ISO range of 50-800, and in reduced resolution Sensor+ mode, up to ISO 3200. The IQ140 is one of the latest generation of Phase One backs with a "Retina" resolution touch screen and a truly well designed and intuitive touch interface.

The IQ140 digital back with 645DF is a Value-Added bundle with all standard accessories. Beau Photo will provide a 90 day warranty on the digital back. The 645DF body and 80mm lens will have a 30 day warranty. The original plastic screen protector is still on the LCD so that should be pristine, however the body and back do have a few small nicks and scuffs as you can tell on the photo.

The price for this package is $8,995.

As an added bonus, we will throw in a $300 rental coupon that you can use to rent or test out additional Phase One or Mamiya lenses, rent lighting or whatever else might interest you...

NEW IN RENTALS! Canon EOS 80D DSLR

We have replaced our hard working Canon EOS 70D DSLR with Canon's new EOS 80D DSLR. Improvements relative to the 70D is a new, higher resolution 24.2 megapixel sensor, a 45 point all cross type AF system, 1080p 60fps video recording & larger buffer. I personally like the 3x-10x digital video zoom feature, as it allows me to get much closer to wildlife and still preserve the 1080p resolution than I would without it.  The large tilt screen with touch function is also quite useful, as is the NFC/WiFi function.

Anna's Hummingbird & nest - Canon EOS 80D + Canon 100-400mm f4.5~5.6L IS II.

Great Horned Owl fledgling - Canon EOS 80D + Canon 600mm f4L.

Register now for an upcoming Fuji Photo Walk!

A shot from the last Beau Photo / Fuji Photo Walk

Beau Photo / Fuji-Guys Photo Walk  (Saturday, April 9th)

On Saturday, April 9th, Beau Photo and Fujifilm Canada will be hosting another photo walk. This time we'll be meeting at the Coal Harbour Community Centre in downtown Vancouver at 1:00pm. The walk will continue until 4pm. You will need to sign up in advance, and here is a link for doing so…

I, Mike Mander, will be there, as well as Gord Webster from Fujifilm, Vancouver's own "Fuji Guy", and Ramin Shahidian who is a local Fujifilm sales rep. You are welcome to bring your own camera gear to shoot with, be it Fujifilm or something else, and there will be lots of Fujifilm X-series loaner gear on hand for you to briefly try out during the event. Of particular interest is the new X-Pro2 body, and there should be four or more of those to share with other attendees. We will also have the new 100-400mm zoom as well as many other bodies and lenses to borrow and try out. In addition, we will be happy to answer any of your technical questions too plus, we will have some $50 off coupons on hand for those attendees wanting to purchase a Fujifilm body or lens after the event!
