Beau Photo has a new website, and blog!
Greetings! It has been a long time coming, but Beau Photo Supplies now has a brand-new website! This is not a mere refresh of our old site, rather it's a ground-up new design, something we've been working on in-house for the last couple of years. The new site will feature lots of imagery, something we all agreed was important from the day we first started discussing a new design.
This will be the last posting to this Google hosted blog, which has served us quite well for a number of years now. We will be keeping this older blog around for the foreseeable future, so people can still access older postings if they're hunting for a previous article or review. Some of the more popular postings will likely get transferred to our new blog, or some even to the articles or reviews areas of our new site.
We will be trying very hard to ensure the new blog gets more postings, and on a more regular basis. In addition, our new website will also be kept more up-to-date with used equipment and will see many more product reviews and sample image galleries. Finally, our new site actually has detailed listings of the majority of the thousands of products we stock in our store! Currently, what are missing are some of the smaller camera accessories, like caps, hoods, cables and such, as well as a few key categories (continuous lighting and printer inks are the obvious ones) that just didn't quite get done in time. Those should be added within the next month or two as well.
So, without further ado, click on the banner at the top of this post to be taken to a blog posting on our new site, welcoming you to our new site! Or click this link below...
http://www.beauphoto.com/welcome-to-the-all-new-beau-photo-website/
For the main blog on the new site, this is the link...
http://www.beauphoto.com/blog/
DNS propagation should have completed pretty much worldwide by now, but if the above links don't seem to work, or if you're still seeing our old site when you visit www.beauphoto.com, which looks like the left part of the above banner image, try hitting reload on your browser. If that doesn't work, just give it another day or so. Lastly, the mobile presentation of the new site, how it displays on tablets and smartphones, is a little less than ideal at present. We'll be working on tuning that in the future.
In any case, we hope you enjoy the new site and find it much more useful than our old one. Enjoy!

Orangemonkie is now at Beau Photo
Here is a couple great new products that you just might need. The FOLDIO2 by Orangemonkie is a 15 inch portable shooting tent that comes with its own LED lights. It is great for web merchandising or product photography for jewelry, shoes, sunglasses, beauty products and many more. The LED strip lighting is a daylight temp of 5700K and completely dimmable. Also what is great is that is folds down into a neat little package making it a truly portable lighting solution for the on-the-go product photographer. Add to that the FOLDIO360, and you can easily create 360 degree product images using a smart phone or a digital camera. The FOLDIO360 uses Bluetooth and IR sensors to connect directly to your smart phone and DSLR. Once you click on the start button, it will automatically rotate, take pictures, and combine them to create one final 360 degree image.
FOLDIO2 $109.95

Argus Day 2017!
Argust 17th, 2017
Its almost August and as usual all Argus enthusiasts will be gearing up for Argus Day 2017! Meghan and myself are Beau Photo's Argus fans and we have many customers who also adore Argus cameras.
Just in time for Argus Day 2017, Meghan has acquired a new Argus 75. Unlike her previous black Argus Seventy-Five 1949-1958, this one is a later version manufactured from 1958-1964 and it has a lustrous brown finish. Like last year Meghan will have to alter some 120 film to fit it in her Argus 75 as it was intended for 620 film. Luckily with these cameras it just requires her to use scissors and cut down a 120 spool of film. For myself, as there are many intriguing Argus cameras floating around, I'd like to shoot a different Argus camera than I did last year when I shot the Argus A and the Argus C3. This year I hope to borrow an Argus C33 from a friend who is an avid Argus collector!
You can share your Argus Day photos on social media, as we’d love to see them all! Use the hashtag #ArgusDay2016 or on Twitter mentions us @beauphotostore or Instagram @beau_photo_supplies. You can also email any of your photos to film@beauphoto.com and we will include them in our next post with all our photos from Argus Day! Be sure to include what camera you used.
There is even a special Argus Collectors page, dedicated to all things Argus with many great reference guides and info. You can also submit your Argus Day photos to them each year, which they then post to their yearly archive.

Noblex for Summer!
Noblex Super Wide PRO 6/150 U
Want a unique Camera for your summer shooting? Looking for an amazing medium format film camera? The Noblex Super Wide PRO 6/150 U is it. NOBLEX cameras are film cameras that expose the film by rotating the lens 360° for one exposure. The film rests on the curved film plane, and is exposed through the constant shutter slit. During the first half of the rotation the lens drum is accelerated to a constant speed insuring absolutely even exposure of the film during the second half of the rotation. This results in distortion free photographs with an angle of view of 146° when using a NOBLEX PRO 6/150. What makes these pictures stand out are their remarkably even edge to edge illumination and unsurpassed sharpness. This camera was recently serviced to make sure it is fully functional. This item is new in its original box but please note the rear battery doors are missing.
Here is a link to see some examples of great photos you can take with a Noblex camera:

Profoto B1X Power in all the right places
The Profoto B1 became the benchmark for the on-location flash. Now, the benchmark is about to be set again with the launch of the Profoto B1X.
More than an update, this is a significant replacement with improvements in three important areas; power, power and power.
The B1X features a new LED modelling light which adds 80% more light output. The new battery pack holds an impressive 50% more energy with no extra size or weight. And last but not least, the High Speed Sync power range is extended to the same range as in normal flash mode - 9 full f-stops.
Add to that two new OCF reflectors that are compact in size yet add lots of punch and direction to overpower the sun and no matter where you’re shooting, you’ll have power in all the right places.
Find out all about these new products at: https://profoto.com/speed-redefined/ca/b1x/

Hasselblad Trade-In Pricing...
On June 1st, 2017, Hasselblad will be implementing some changes to their trade-in/upgrade program. There will be a slight price increase across the board, on average roughly about 10%. In addition, and more importantly for those with older systems, there will no longer be any trade-in allowance at all for H3D and older systems. Only H4D systems and newer will be eligible for a trade-ins as of June 1st.
Hasselblad's trade-in allowances have been very generous for older systems, generally far in excess of what you could get if trying to sell on the used market. So... if you have been contemplating an upgrade, do not delay!
Following is a link to Hasselblad's website that details the changes to the upgrade program. Note that the prices listed are in USD of course. Right now, you'd be looking at roughly 40% more in CDN dollars, once shipping, exchange, brokerage etc. is factored in. So, multiply those prices by 1.4x to estimate Canadian costs.
Hasselblad H6D Trade-In Price Change Details
Also, if you have been thinking of a new Hasselblad, but do not have a system to trade, we actually have two used H3D-39 systems at the moment. You could buy one, trade it in towards a new H6D, and come out way ahead since you will get far more value on the trade than the cost of the used one. In addition, with those used cameras you can pick up an 80mm lens as well, and even a film magazine with one of them, since those items will not need to be sent in for the trade, only the body, prism and digital back, as well as some accessories and caps. See the image at the top of the post to see the two cameras we currently have. Note that the one on the right has the added GPS module attachment as well and if you click on the image, it will open up bigger to more easily read the tags.
As an example of trade-in value, let's say you wanted to get a new H6D-50c. The regular pricing here in Canada for an outright purchase with no trade-in, is $36,395. However, if you were to trade in either of the H3D systems above, the price drops to $25,345, for a trade-in allowance of $11,050. So, you can save $5,250 by buying, then trading the H3d on the left, or save $6,050 for the one on the right! Plus, you get to keep the 80mm lens on either one, whereas a new one would be $4,350! The film magazine new, should you care about having one, is $3,050!
So, you can see that there'd be well over $10,000 in savings, factoring in the lens and accessories, on either of those two used cameras, should you buy and then trade towards a new H6D-50c. But only before June 1st, so don't let this great opportunity slip away; contact us today!

Project Instant V4.0 - Retro Gratification
It's that time of year again! Beau Photo's Project Instant is back! Beginning now, we are gathering entries for our fourth instant photography exhibition.
This year the title is Retro Gratification. Regardless of the era, instant photographs somehow manage to feel authentically retro. This exhibition illustrates the importance and meaning that instant photography has while still holding on to that nostalgic, retro feeling. As always, the ‘theme’ is open to interpretation and we can’t wait to see where you take it.
The exhibition will be held at Science World from April 4th until May 7th 2017 as part of the Capture Photography Festival. There will be an opening reception on April 5th from 6-8pm where we hope you will join us to check out all the great work submitted. There will be refreshments, the 8x10 Portrait Photo Booth, Fujifilm Instax fun and more! Please note: Science World has a daily entry fee, please join us on the opening night to view the show fee free!
Here are a few rules for the show to keep in mind...
Because of the family oriented audience at Science World, we ask that the subject matter be appropriate for all ages. Science World reserves the right to refuse any photos they feel are not appropriate for the space. If you are unsure about an image and would really like to include it, contact us and we can have it pre-screened prior to hanging the show. Please be aware that this show will be on display in a high traffic area, and while we do not anticipate any issues, and there have not been issues in the past at this venue, there is the possibility that photos could be damaged or stolen.
Submissions can be dropped off at Beau Photo Supplies or can be mailed in to Beau Photo. Each person will have from one to three images included in the show, and a selection of entries will be chosen for framing and exhibition style hanging. Prizes will be awarded in the following categories:
- Overall Winner
- Overall Runner Up
- Mixed Media
- Integral Format
- Integral from Digital Source
- Staff Pick
- Alternative Print Method
- Judge's choice image
- Pack/Peel-a-part Film
Submissions must be received by 5pm Monday March 20th, 2017.
Emulsion lifts or mixed media that include the original photograph are permitted. Digital reproductions of instant film images will only be accepted in the Alternative Print Method category. Only original photos mailed in or dropped off to Beau Photo will be accepted for all other categories.
If you would like original photos returned by mail, please include a self-addressed envelope with sufficient postage with your submission. Photos can also be picked up from Beau Photo Supplies after the show. Any photos left for more than two months after the closing of the show will become the property of Beau Photo.
An entry fee of $15.00 + GST for one to three photos applies. If you wish to mail your submission, you can call Nicole at Beau Photo to make a credit card payment over the phone. The payment will be processed when the photos arrive at the shop. Alternately, you can include a money order for $15.75 which includes GST with your submission. Please email Nicole at film@beauphoto.com if you have any questions.
Please note: submission fees are non-refundable.
Beau Photo is not responsible for damage or loss of artwork while in transit or on display. By submitting your work you agree to allow your images to be used for promotional purposes for the show/contest.
